Diana Thornton Gone By the River 
I was born on a houseboat on the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My mother always had a dream of floating down the river to New Orleans. Finally, in 1989 she did it - in a 55-foot houseboat named "Odyssey" - all the way down to Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans. Today the boat is docked in the bayou in the back yard. I wrote "Gone by the River" for her.
