Professor John W. "Knocky" Parker
The Complete Piano Works of Scott Joplin


Scott Joplin was born in Texarkana, Texas on November 24th, 1868. His parents were musical - his mother played the banjo and his father the violin. At the age of seven, he became fascinated by a neighbor's piano and began to pick out tunes, soon becoming proficient in playing by ear. His father then bought a piano and soon Joplin became the talk of the town. A German professor interested himself in the young lad and gave him free lessons in counterpoint, sight reading and harmony.

To Joplin belongs the undying prestige of being the originator of "the new sound" in music circa 1880....
